Accessibility
Version 2026-10-05
Many of the people who use this website are older adults, or family members arranging care at a stressful time. Accessibility is not a compliance exercise here — it is the difference between someone finding help and giving up.
What we have built in
- Semantic HTML with a logical heading order on every page.
- A "skip to main content" link as the first focusable element.
- Every form control has a permanently visible label. Placeholders are never used as labels.
- Validation errors are linked to their field, described in text, and summarised at the top of the form with links to each problem.
- Error and status states never rely on colour alone — they are accompanied by an icon and text.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element, including custom controls.
- The mobile menu is keyboard operable and closes with the Escape key.
- Body text is at least 16px, and form controls are large enough to use without zooming.
- Text and interface colours are chosen for readable contrast on every surface.
- Motion is restrained, and the site is fully usable with reduced motion enabled.
- Photographs have descriptions; purely decorative marks are hidden from screen readers.
- Icon-only controls carry an accessible name.
Our target
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA across this website. Accessibility was built in from the start rather than retrofitted, but we are a home care agency, not an accessibility consultancy, and we will always have more to learn.
Known limitations
We would rather be straightforward about where this site is currently weaker than claim perfection:
- The administrative dashboard used by our staff is built on a third-party framework. We have not independently audited it to the same standard as the public site. It is not part of the public website and is not required to use our services.
- Some photographs are supplied by the business and their descriptions are still being written. Where a description is missing, we have used an empty alternative attribute rather than a misleading one.
- The site has not yet been through an independent audit or testing with assistive technology by an external consultant. That is planned before launch.
